Letting freedom ring in Cincinnati

The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center opened in 2004 with the goal of celebrating the people who created the secret network—the Underground Railroad—through which slaves from the South could escape and find freedom in the North.

The museum further educates visitors with stories about men and women who have challenged injustice and inequality in hopes of bringing justice to everyone. Travelers can learn about famous freedom fighters like Martin Luther King Jr., and hear stories of ordinary people from the 18th to the 20th centuries who were sold into slavery. The museum also provides facts and statistics about modern-day slavery.

Groups can arrange for a 90-minute guided tour of the museum, which is located in downtown Cincinnati alongside the Ohio River. Attraction staff also works with group leaders by allowing them to preview the museum at no cost to get a better idea of what it is like.
