Toronto for students

“There are many reasons why educators and student tour operators choose Toronto, Canada’s Downtown,” says Maxine Morrell-West of Tourism Toronto. “Not only because it’s a vibrant, diverse, progressive and inclusive city, but also because we extend an invitation for them to be curious about the city and to become a part of it. For American school groups, Toronto offers an international travel experience that is close, safe and very accessible.”

A couple of the city’s top attractions, both of which blend education and entertainment, are the CN Tower and the Aga Khan Museum.

Located on the harbor front, the CN Tower checks in at 553.33 meters (1,815 feet). Groups are whisked to the observation levels via a 58-second ride on one of the attraction’s glass elevators. In addition to taking in sweeping views of Lake Ontario and the entire Toronto region, students can take part in a number of grade-specific educational programs.

Offerings such as Structures and Mechanisms, Geography and Urban Planning, and Hospitality and Tourism, which all align with Ontario curriculum standards, are available. There also are performance opportunities for choir groups.

At the Aga Khan Museum, students can discover cross-cultural connections through the ages. The attraction opened in 2014 and is the first North American museum dedicated to the artistic endeavors of Muslim civilizations. Interactive programs and optional workshops keep the focus on the history and cultural relevance of Muslim civilizations and allow participants to explore the museum’s diverse collection.
