Aberdeen for groups

As Scotland prepares to celebrate the Year of Coasts and Waters in 2020, Aberdeen will be a popular destination. Scotland’s third-largest city, which is located in the northeastern part of the country, offers many on-the-water experiences for travelers.

One of the newest options is a harbor cruise—available through Stonehaven Sea Safari—on a speedboat. According to Nicole Graham of VisitScotland, passengers can experience the area’s dramatic coastline and get up close with an array of wildlife thanks to the durable safari boat.

“Whether it’s viewing highly intelligent dolphins or the unmistakable puffins, secret caves, or waterfalls that cannot be seen from the land, groups can enjoy this experience and discover something new,” Graham says.

True to its name, the company’s Castle Trip includes a chance for people to see Dunnottar Castle from the sea. Passengers will learn the history of this iconic landmark, which dates to the 15th century.

Starting in November, travelers heading to Aberdeen also can check out the results of a major redevelopment project at the Aberdeen Art Gallery. This was the first significant investment in more than 130 years, and the multimillion-dollar facelift added new gallery spaces and updated visitor facilities.

Works by Scottish artists and makers such as Rachel McLean, James Cromar Watt, Henry Raeburn, and Joan Eardley headline the collection, which also includes paintings by Claude Monet and other international artists.
