“From cowboy culture to lively restaurants and entertainment options, groups of all sizes can find accommodating attractions throughout Oklahoma City,” says Sandy Price of the Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The downtown area of the capital city is home to a number of top attractions, such as the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum and the Bricktown Entertainment District.
The museum and memorial stands as a reminder of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in 1995, when 168 people lost their lives. Visitors can tour the indoor and outdoor sections of the attraction and learn about the events before, on, and after that fateful day.
Price says a special program, First Person: Stories of Hope, is available by special request for groups. Visitors hear stories from the people who lived through the tragedy, including employees who survived, family members, aid workers, first responders, FBI agents, and journalists.
Once a commercial warehouse zone, the Bricktown area has been transformed into a buzzing entertainment hotspot. It offers turn-of-the-century charm, and the dozens of restaurants and shops—as well as the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark and the Harkins Theatre—provide a variety of experiences and activities in the heart of the city. Popular water taxi rides around Bricktown include narration on the city’s rich history and allow travelers to see the area from a different point of view.
