From its iconic Statue of Liberty and Central Park to the neon lights of Broadway and an A-list lineup of arts-based attractions, New York City offers students endless opportunities for exploration. In addition to enjoying those things, school groups also can discover more about the city by checking out its neighborhoods.

According to John A. Marshall of NYC & Company, there are a number of tours highlighting the Big Apple’s vibrant boroughs. “We suggest student groups try experiential tours in NYC. Two standout options are Turnstile Tours and Food on Foot Tours,” he says.

Turnstile Tours offers a comprehensive group of custom-designed tours that focus on connecting travelers with neighborhoods. Some of the company’s most popular offerings cover spots such as Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the Brooklyn Army Terminal and Essex Street. Turnstile Tours also donates 5 percent of ticket sales to local nonprofits.

Food on Foot Tours takes groups on multi-ethnic, multi-neighborhood excursions that allow them to sample a variety of only-in-that-place eats. Students can enjoy programs such as the East Village Block Party Food Tour, the International Express Food Tour, All Beef Brooklyn Food Tour, NY Over Noodles Food Tour and the Sandwich Salvation Food Tour.
