People have long described Maid of the Mist boat tours in Niagara Falls, New York, as electric. Today, it’s literally true. Our catamaran-style boats are all-electric, giving visitors the best experience and helping us do our part to protect the natural wonder and beauty of Niagara Falls. The iconic attraction transports guests to the Bridal Veil or American Falls, then proceeds to the base of the Canadian Falls or Horseshoe Falls, where more than 600,000 gallons of water a second cascade into the Lower Niagara River.
The water churns into a maelstrom, and Maid of the Mist captains keep the vessels steady as guests scream and squeal in delight as they experience the thunder and mist of Niagara Falls.
Maid of the Mist is now in its 138th consecutive season, and the third season for our all-electric, zero-emission vessels, James V. Glynn and Nikola Tesla. The Glynn is named after James V. Glynn, Maid of the Mist chairman and CEO, who began his career in 1950 as a ticket taker. He purchased the Maid in 1971. The Tesla honors the Serbian-born engineer who was behind the design and construction of the world’s first hydroelectric power plant, located in Niagara Falls, New York.
Launched during the 2020 season, the new vessels are the first of their kind in North America. Propelled by electric motors, the boats have no engine noise nor diesel fumes. Each vessel can carry up to 600 passengers.
“These eco-friendly vessels are unique and provide our guests from around the world with an unparalleled experience,” said Maid of the Mist President Christopher M. Glynn. “Our vessels move silently, almost effortlessly, as they take people closer to nature. You can hear the birds and you can hear the roar of Niagara Falls without any engine noise. It is a new and thrilling experience.
“Maid of the Mist is a unique, global brand. Our associates work very hard to make sure that our guests have a memorable experience that only Maid of the Mist can provide.”
